New Hospital: Equipment Campaign
1515 E Ocean Ave | Mar 14, 2007 - Oct 28, 2010
In 2005, more than 87 percent of the district voters approved the issuance of general obligation bonds not to exceed $74.5 million for the construction of the new state-of-the-art hospital at 1515 E. Ocean Ave. The 60-bed general acute care hospital opened in June 2010. But while the bond paid for the construction of the hospital, state law prohibits bond money from behind used to purchase moveable furniture or equipment.
The Lompoc Hospital District Foundation took on a $4 million capital campaign to purchase equipment and furniture. Pledges ranged from a few dollars to the largest contributor, Shirley J. Bailey Young, who dedicated more than $1.5 million, as well as a house, to the campaign. The Santa Barbara Foundation also donated $350,000 for a fetal monitoring system.
The monies were raised through various fundraisers and donations, including monetary gifts made to acquire naming rights on rooms, nooks, and wall plaques.
Among the equipment purchased included desks and chairs, six specialty childbirth beds, and digital medical equipment.
